"I was fortunate enough to get a scholarship to go to VCCS the first year it opened and graduated with the second graduating class in 1994. Although it took longer than expected and I took some unexpected paths along the way, my dream of becoming a meteorologist has been achieved. I now work as a research meteorologist at the University of Hawaii. I work on predicting volcanic smog based on weather patterns in Hawaii. I owe a lot to the opportunity at VCCS of having a quality education. I was afforded a safe environment with a quality support system. For me, this was especially important because of my unique set of challanges including extreme poverty and other issues.
VCCS is a great school that forces students to achieve their full potential in a safe environment away from the influences of today's narcassistic society. VCCS stood head and shoulders above the rest in regards to both academics and character development because it taught me determination, motivation, patience...It has contributed both to my confidence and positive self-esteem."
